Join to apply for the Coordinator I - Recovery Specialist role at Boston Public Health Commission . 3 months ago Be among the first 25 applicants The Recovery Specialist /Coordinator (RSC) for AHOPE will assist with harm reduction counseling, HIV /HCV /STI testing, and health navigation at AHOPE and through all satellite/mobile outreach sites. The RSC will provide referrals for medical and behavioral health services, including all modalities of substance use treatment. Under the direction of AHOPE leadership, the RSC will provide engagement and risk reduction services using a 'non-judgmental, non-coercive approach' for people who use drugs. DUTIES Coordinates, monitors, develops, and implements Recovery Specialist programming at AHOPE. Ensures effective operations and compliance with standards and goals. Provides peer recovery support services to participants with substance use disorder (SUD) to achieve sustained recovery, following up as needed. Works collaboratively with AHOPE team members and promotes shared philosophy about comprehensive and coordinated referral services. Facilitates participant access to recovery-oriented treatment, resources, and community education groups around overdose prevention, safer sex, and safer drug use. Works with Bureau staff to determine appropriate care levels, resources, and placement opportunities. Monitors participant progress, advocates for services, and assists with navigating healthcare and social service systems. Accompanies participants to appointments and provides transportation as needed. Provides support in treatment programs and emergency settings as needed. Collaborates with treatment providers, hospitals, and team staff. Facilitates communication between participants and providers. Provides support and referrals to families and friends supporting recovery. Provides overdose prevention training and safety planning. Assists with participant intake procedures and monitors completion of assessments and treatment plans. Analyzes program data, recommends procedural changes, and maintains liaison with external agencies. Collaborates with private, state, local, and federal partners, attends meetings, and serves as a team member on multidisciplinary teams. Represents BPHC in the community. Coordinates activities including fiscal monitoring, grant writing, compliance monitoring, report writing, and communication development. May supervise staff and maintain records. Performs other duties as required. BA/BS degree required or 3 years of relevant experience. Licenses, certifications, or program-specific experience may be needed. Experience working with diverse populations, including those with co-occurring mental health and addiction issues. Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, and understand applicable laws and policies. Knowledge of MS Office and community resources related to addiction treatment. Ability to establish effective relationships with community agencies and providers. Strong organizational skills and cultural competence. Bilingual/bicultural applicants encouraged. Willingness to be trained in phlebotomy within 90 days of hire.
